Saturday 2 March 2019 at 2.30 pm, thanks to the Stage on the net project, promoted by the TIM Foundation in collaboration with the Accademia Teatro alla Scala, by connecting to the Accademia’s Facebook channel, it will be possible to watch the live streaming from the Teatro alla Scala of the Il regno delle Ombre from La Bayadère, ballet by Marius Petipa with music by Ludwig Minkus. On stage, the students of the Ballet School with the Academy orchestra conducted by David Coleman.
The young dancers face the white act of one of the masterpieces of the late-romantic repertoire of Marius Petipa, choreographer of the Imperial Theaters of St. Petersburg, created in 1877 on the music of Ludwig Minkus.
Petipa, author of ballets like Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, in the third act of La Bayadère – The Kingdom of Shadows – asks the performers notable technical skills since entering the scene, when thirty two dancers in candid white tutus parade on an inclined plane in a difficult series of arabesques. The two-step and the variations of the two protagonists of the tragic love story, Solor and Nikija, in addition to the variations of the shadows entrusted to three soloists are a real challenge for the students of the School, all between the 7th and 8th course.
