On Thursday 23 February 2023, at 5 pm, at the “Arturo Toscanini” Foyer of the Teatro alla Scala, a new appointment in the cycle I Concerti dell’Accademia, the initiative featuring the young students of the La Scala Academy of Lyric Opera.
The Soloists, accompanied by the students of the Advanced Course for opera coaches, under the guidance of Alexander Dratwicki, artistic director of the Palazzetto Bru Zane – Center de musique romantique française, will perform a program completely dedicated to Jules Massenet.
The concert is part of a collaboration launched in 2020 between the Accademia Teatro alla Scala and the Palazzetto Bru Zane with the aim of giving students the opportunity to learn more about the 19th century French musical heritage, of which the Centro of research promotes the rediscovery and international diffusion, dealing with both chamber music and the symphonic, sacred and lyrical repertoire.
During a masterclass held by Alexandre Dratwicki in January, the soloists and collaborator teachers of the Academy delved into some pages of Jules Massenet, known to the contemporary general public for Manon or Werther, who fully met the Parisian taste of the Belle Époque with works such as Ariane, Le Mage or Grisèlidis. The young artists of the Scala family have the task of restoring that atmosphere; you will hear excerpts from Hèrodiade, Sapho, Don Quichotte, Don César de Bazan, Werther, Manon, Esclarmonde, Cendrillon, Grisélidis, Le Mage, Le Roi de Lahore entrusted to the interpretations of the sopranos Aleksandrina Mihaylova and Nicole Wacker, of the mezzo-soprano Mara Gaudenzi, by the baritone Sung-Hwan Damien Park, and by the tenors Hyun-Seo Davide Park and Andrea Tanzillo, accompanied by Michele Franceschi, Carolina Benedettini, Valeria Vitelli, Eri Hamakawa, Riccardo Stiffoni, Chaeyoon Na.
The concert will therefore be repeated in Venice on June 17th.
Admission is free subject to availability of seats upon collection of an entrance ticket starting one week before the date of the concert at the Ticket Office of the Teatro alla Scala, open from Monday to Saturday from 10.30 to 18.00 and Sunday from 12.00 to 18.00.
