The Academy Orchestra is preparing for a concert that will see it conducted by Fabio Luisi at the Palazzo Ducale in Martina Franca, as part of the Itria Valley Festival.

On Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. it will perform Dmitry Šostakovič's Symphony No. 14 - a work dedicated to English composer Benjamin Britten - entrusted for the vocal parts to the interpretation of Lidia Fridman (soprano) and Adolfo Corrado (bass).

The Fourteenth weaves into its movements eleven poems chosen by Šostakovič from the output of authors dear to him - Federico García Lorca, Guillaume Apollinaire, Rainer Maria Rilke and Wilhelm Küchelbecker.

The composer's idea was that the listener could go home, after listening to this work, thinking “life is beautiful,” that he or she would perceive its value, that he or she would wish not to waste a single moment of it, and that he or she would feel stimulated to consecrate it “to what is greatest in this world, the struggle for the liberation of humanity.” Thus the concert is part of a festival that moves its 51st edition around the ever tragically topical theme of war and peace.

The Academy musicians will face rehearsals with Fabio Luisi in early July. Supporting them in this artistic and professional training is a new commitment from the Ministry of Culture and SIAE, already institutional partners of the Academy, for the “Young Talents in Concert” project as part of the “For Those Who Create 2024” program. The Course for Orchestra Professors is a free two-year program specifically designed to train future music theater professionals, offering them the expert guidance of the First Parts of La Scala Theater and the most renowned contemporary conductors, thus ensuring a privileged path to a career.

Cultivating talent is a fundamental mission of our school, and this is also embodied in a rich calendar of events that sees students engaged in Italy and abroad in the most prestigious contexts, such as participation in the Festival della Valle d'Itria.
