"Musica nell’aria" (Music in the Air) kicks off on July 4th, a project by Accademia Teatro alla Scala created with the support of Regione Lombardia - Direzione Cultura, in collaboration with Aler Varese, Como, Monza Brianza, Busto Arsizio, Consorzio Turistico Media Valtellina and Italia Nostra Aps Sezione di Sondrio to take music outside of traditional theatrical contexts and meet the public in urban spaces or landscape locations.
The Orchestra dell'Accademia, composed of 60 elements, will hold a concert (at 6:30 p.m.) conducted by Pietro Mianiti in the square of the historic center of Sernio, in the province of Sondrio.
The evening's program will open with Suite no. 1 op. 46 by Edvard Grieg, one of the two symphonic compositions that the Norwegian author derived from the incidental music composed for Ibsen's Peer Gynt; followed by the Moldava, the most famous of Bedřich Smetana's Symphonic Poems, dedicated to the waterway that flows through Bohemia.
Then, after Night on Bald Mountain, a composition by Modest Mussorgsky reworked by Nikolaj Rimsky-Korsakov, the concert will end with the enthralling Initial Symphony of Rossini's last opera, William Tell. Works in which nature emerges in its various manifestations, thanks to the comforting melodies of the instruments that recall the gradual rising of the sun or the aquatic twirling of the nymphs, up to the gradually greater sound intensities that recall the impetuous force of the swirling waters of the rivers.
Free entrance until places available, a registration is required.
On Saturday 5 July, starting at 9 am, music will once again accompany those who will undertake an excursion along the Sentiero dei Castelli in Media Valtellina.
A walk accessible to all that will touch Sernio, Lovero and Tovo Sant'Agata and that will be enriched by some musical "stages" with solo inserts by the young students of the Orchestra dell'Accademia.
The route will allow you to explore the landscape, revealing characteristic historic villages, immersed in greenery and offering views of the mountains of the area. Along the route, which winds through apple orchards and vineyards, chestnut groves and terraces, you can also admire traces of ancient castles and fortifications. The walk will take place in several stages throughout the morning, giving different groups the opportunity to complete the route.
To participate, you will need to register no later than June 30, 2025; further details will be given via email on July 1, so double check your email contact when you enroll.
Musica nell’aria is a project included in the scope of the Cultural Olympics of Milan Cortina 2026, a multidisciplinary, plural and widespread program to promote Olympic and Paralympic values through culture, heritage and sport.
