Friday, September 15 at 8 PM, the Academy Orchestra will again perform at Teatro alla Scala with none other than Plácido Domingo on the podium in an exceptional evening concert to benefit the Milanese Section of the Italian League for the Fight Against Cancer (Lega Italiana per la Lotta ai Tumori – LILT).
This LILT benefit, sponsored by the City of Milan, is now in its 27th year.
The proceeds from this year’s initiative will go toward the purchase of three digital tomosynthesis mammography machines as part of the toolkit in the prevention of breast cancer, each for a different LILT facility in Milan or Monza.
The program includes works by well known composers from the Iberian peninsula, from Manuel de Falla and Pablo Luna to Ruperto Chapi and Enrique Granados, and on to Pablo Sorrozaba, Isaac Albeniz, Tomás Bretón, Reveriano Soutullo, and José Serriano Siméon, interpreted by the La Scala players, including the tenor Jorge de León and the castanet artist Lucero Tena.
The concert will be repeated on Monday, September 18, again at La Scala.
