The advanced course for orchestra musicians, reserved for qualified musicians, allows to achieve specific skills in the concert, opera and ballet repertoire. The course, spread over two years, after a first period dedicated to exercises and rehearsals, provides an intense performing program including concerts and opera productions. It also provides for the creation of a string orchestra (20 items), an ensemble of woodwind and a brass and percussions ensemble, to create greater understanding between the students and develop their listening skills.
The teaching is entrusted to the First Parts of the Teatro alla Scala for the lessons of solo instrument and the instrumental sections. The orchestral exercises are entrusted to the conductors Daniele Rustioni and Pietro Mianiti. Will be guest conductors of the orchestra, among others, the masters: Marco Angius, Enrique Mazzola, Mikhail Tatarnikov and Yuri Temirkanov.
During previous editions of the course, musicians performed at the Teatro alla Scala, the Piccolo Teatro, the Teatro Dal Verme, the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, the Teatro Verdi in Brindisi, and during the music event Festival MiTo. They also went on various tours, including to the United Arab Emirates (2008) and Denmark (2009). The orchestra will soon perform on tour in Russia at the Ravello Festival.
Some recent important productions in which the musicians performed are the ballet Il pipistrello in 2006, correographed by Roland Petit, and Ascanio in Alba by Mozart. In 2007 and 2008 they performed two Mozart operas, Così fan tutte and Le nozze di Figaro, as well as Serata Petit, as an homage to the French choreographer. In 2009 they performed in the ballet Sogno di una notte di mezza estate, with choreography by George Balanchine, in Donizetti’s opera Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali di Donizetti (2009) and in Rossini's L'occasione fa il ladro (2010) and L'italiana in Algeri (2011).
Conductors in this masterclass have included, among others, Giovanni Antonini, Roberto Rizzi Brignoli, Ottavio Dantone, Christopher Franklin, Marco Guidarini, Nicola Luisotti, Enrique Mazzola, Pietro Mianiti, Stefano Ranzani, Corrado Rovaris, and Daniele Rustioni.
