he Course for Classical Ballet Instructors is the first program recognized at the La Scala Academy by the MIUR (Ministry of Education, University and Research).
The degree program guarantees a wide and varied training, allowing not only to deepen the classical-academic technique according to the methodology adopted in the Academy’s Ballet School, but also to acquire skills in dance teaching thanks to subjects such as anatomy applied to dance, psychology and pedagogy, didactic planning of dance, theory and musical practice.
La Scala's Excellence
The teaching staff consists of the teachers of the Academy's Ballet School, who after a long and brilliant career on the stage transfer to the students an experience of inestimable value, passing on their technical knowledge and interpretative sensitivity. The major experts in the field of pedagogy, psychology, psychotherapy, medicine and physiotherapy, as well as the history of music and dance, refine the preparation, providing the students with specific skills to be applied in teaching and pedagogical area.
The internship program is conceived as a coaching and traineeship process close to the teachers of the Ballet School therefore allowing students gaining a solid knowledge in the field.
The course gives access to the Erasmus + program, the European Union Program for Education, Training, Youth and Sport 2014-2020 which, integrating the previous learning and international cooperation programs, not only aims to facilitate access and promote synergies between different sectors by removing the barriers between the various types of projects, but also aims to attract new actors from the world of work and civil society and stimulate new forms of cooperation.

To whom it is addressed
The course, reserved for 20 participants, is addresed at those who want to deepen the techniques of classical-academic dance according to the methodology adopted by the Ballet School of La Scala Academy.
Italian and foreign citizens with a secondary school diploma or other qualifications obtained abroad who are recognized as eligible according to current legislation.
- be in possession of the Coreutic High School diploma
- have studied at least eight years of classical-academic ballet, at schools, institutions or dance centers
- have at least two years of professional experience like dancer / at dance companies or in Italian ot foreigner ballet corps
- have acquired knowledge and experience in the field of teaching classical-academic dance at ballet schools or at Italian or foreign dance companies.

The course lasts three years, from October to June.
The first year of the course begins on October 16, 2019 and ends on June 25, 2020.
The exam sessions will be held in the months of July and September of each academic year.
Total amount of hours
The three-year educational plan includes 4500 total hours including frontal, laboratory and individual study, corresponding to 180 credits. The total annual commitment required to the student is 1500 hours corresponding to 60 credits.
The weekly attendance plan for the first year of the three-year period is as follows:
Wednesday from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm
Thursday from 9.00 to 18.00
Friday from 9.00 to 18.00
For educational and organizational needs, some activities may occasionally take place at a different time from the one indicated.
The frequency modality of the II and III years of the Triennium will be communicated respectively at the beginning of the II and III years.
Course attendance is mandatory. Admission to individual exams is granted to all students who have attended the lessons provided for each type of teaching (theoretical, theoretical-practical and practical) to the extent specified in the teaching programs of each course and, in any case, not less than 80% of all training activities, excluding individual study, in accordance with current legislation.

Degree of Study
At the end of the course of study, the student obtains the title of Academic Diploma of 1st level recognized by MIUR. To achieve this, the student must have acquired 180 credits including the courses of the study plan, the other training activities and the final exam.
Scholarships and loans
Following the stipulation of a special agreement between the Academy and the Lombardy Region on the basis of the regulations as per Law of December 13, 2004, No. 33, the students deemed suitable and admitted may apply for a scholarship. The methods of request will be specified in a special call.
It is also possible to access a loan granted on preferential terms called an "honor loan" aimed at paying the fee provided by a bank.

The payment of the registration fee for the selection, equal to € 85.00 including VAT is to be made online with a credit card/ debit card, PayPal or online bank transfer.
Admission to the course is subject to passing a selection consisting of a theoretical-practical test relating to the basic techniques of classical-academic dance and a motivational interview.
The selections will be held on 9 and 10 September 2019 at the Academy of Dance School located in Via Campo Lodigiano 2 in Milan.

The selection process consists of an audtion and an interview:
- Barre: Eleven standard classical ballet exercises from years 3 to 5 in
an eight-year ballet program
- Floor: A basic structure of simple compositions to different rhythms
(waltz, polonaise, galop).
-Leaps and pointe work: theoretical
knowledge of the basic techniques from years 3 to 5 of an eightyear
- Basic questions on principal muscles used in movements.
- Music theory questions relating principally to rhythm.
- Questions on instructor-pupil relationships at different age levels.
Applicants will wear appropriate dance lesson attire, with
instructors’ or demi-pointe shoes.
After the audition process, the Examining Committee will
communicate the names of the candidates admitted to the
interview to discuss motivations, aptitude, and goals.

La danza è talento e passione. Ma soprattutto è studio e fatica, ai quali deve aggiungersi una buona dose di determinazione. Lo sanno bene i giovani allievi della Scuola di Ballo Accademia Teatro alla Scala che ogni giorno sono impegnati nel percorso di formazione per ballerini professionisti. Otto anni per arrivare al diploma in danza classico-accademica e moderno-contemporanea, perché la Scuola, oltre ad essere “vivaio” privilegiato per il Corpo di Ballo scaligero, forma ballerini di altissimo livello professionale, in grado di rispondere alle richieste delle compagnie internazionali. Lo spettacolo in scena al Teatro Strehler permette agli allievi di mostrare al pubblico il livello raggiunto negli studi: dai giovanissimi che eseguono le coreografie più semplici, ai più grandi impegnati in variazioni di alto livello. Si passa poi all’esecuzione di brani tratti dal repertorio classico e contemporaneo dei grandi maestri dell’Ottocento e Novecento: negli anni gli allievi si sono esibiti in pezzi di George Balanchine, Mats Ek, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, José Limón, Roland Petit…
