The Course for twentieth century chamber ensemble repertoire was started in 2008 with support of the European Social Fund, the Ministry of Labour and the Lombardy Region, with the aim of training fifteen young musicians to perform in a chamber-orchestra group specialized in the repertoire of twentieth century.
The training project, spread over two years, began in collaboration with Giorgio Bernasconi (recently deceased) who wanted to propose a diversified reading of an extremely rich cultural heritage, which includes Italian and foreign composers ranging in time from the early twentieth century to the contemporary period.
The course includes the preparation of music programs under the guidance of famous conductors, specializing in contemporary repertoire, with the help of the First Sections of the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra and includes a busy concert schedule at the Teatro alla Scala and other venues.
With guidance from such important names as Giorgio Bernasconi, Marco Angius, Olivier Cuendet, George-Elie Octors, Fabián Panisello, Renato Rivolta, Jonathan Stockhammer, the Ensemble has performed in famous theaters and festivals of international status: the Teatro alla Scala, in Venice as part of the Music Biennale, in Caserta at the Teatrino della Reggia, in Como at the Teatro Sociale, in Rome at the Palazzo del Quirinale for the Euroradio concers and in Cremona at the Teatro Ponchielli and, recently, in Wien for the Festwochen performing Luca Francesconi's Quartett.
A great number of composers have been interpreted, many for the first time in Italy; just some of the names include Mahler, Debussy, De Falla, Schoenberg, Berg, Webern, Copland, Hindemith, Dallapiccola, Britten, Donatoni, Sciarrino, Francesconi and Sannicandro.
