I giovani e l’opera lirica [Young People and Opera] is a publication edited by Carlo Delfrati and funded by the Region of Lombardy, containing a study of projects conducted and methods employed by European opera houses.

This study provides a wide overview of the initiatives taken by Europe and Italy’s most important opera houses to attract a younger opera going public. The aim is to offer opera workers and teachers as complete a picture as possible of the range of different initiatives adopted by opera houses in favour of school children, their teachers and families, as well as in favour of cultural and healthcare centres.

The final aim of the study is, on the one hand, to set down a list of reasons why it is important to bring children and teen-agers into contact with opera, while at the same time identfying the obstacles standing in the way of this, and, on the other hand, to focus on the operational strategies that could render the language of opera accessible to the younger public.
