The teaching proposal of the Stage-workshops Department is very articulate and provides training for set designers, costume designers, tailors, theatrical hair and makeup artists, prop makers, machinists, mechanics, carpenters, electricians, lighting designers, plus specialized courses for sound engineers, photographers and videographers.
Students acquire their skills alongside the workers of the Teatro alla Scala in achieving the performances of the season, both on stage and laboratory setting. The Art of, directly transmitted from master to student, reinventing the ancient tradition of the Renaissance workshop, is the cornerstone of these courses.
Fundamental to the educational growth of students encounters with artists and professionals of international renown, by Graham Vick to Tullio Pericoli, by Luca Ronconi, Peter Stein, Roberto De Simone, Hugo De Ana, by Franco Zeffirelli to Arnaldo Pomodoro, by Franca Squarciapino, Luisa Spinatelli, by Anne-Marie True Marzot Heinreich.
Many former students are now included in staff of La Scala workers, working together with other important theaters and festivals in Italy and abroad, from Milan to Rome, from Turin to Parma, from Paris to Valencia to Madrid.
